How long does editing take?

It depends on the length of the book, the level of attention required, and the editing service, but for a novel of average length (approx. 90,000 words), developmental editing usually takes about a month, basic copyediting takes about three weeks, and proofreading takes about two weeks.

Once I’ve completed and returned everything, I’ll ask the author to compile any initial questions he or she might have into a single email or Word document. I also make myself available to answer any subsequent questions that might arise throughout the revising process, even after the last invoice has been paid.
